We are Marcus and Judith and are the founders of Funny Farm Ouddorp.

In 2019 it started with 4 Sika Deer. When we saw the first alpacas, we fell in love immediately! Not much later, two pregnant alpacas (Samantha and Hazel) walked around in the field. They now also belong to the clan.

The farm has now grown into a small farm. Initially, we wanted a cosy backyard and a nice extra feature for the guests of our B7B’s. They can take a walk with the alpaca’s, collect some fresh eggs, and of course unlimited cuddles!

Not much later we received many requests from other people and the idea was born to transform our hobby into a concept in which we organize the activities with the animals, and the full amount of profit goes into our Foundation.

We also know that we can’t help the entire world. Yet every little gesture is a step in the right direction.

We have been in South Africa in winter months for years. Marcus is South African and his family lives here. Every day you are confronted with the big difference between rich and poor, black, and white, and many things are not as obvious there as in the Netherlands. It started with a spontaneous action in the supermarket, a man stood in front of us at the checkout with his two daughters and bought the much-needed food. We offered to pay for his food and as a surprise the girls were both able to choose a doll. It was such a warm feeling to see them so happy! A small effort for us, but a big gesture for them. We also know that we cannot help the whole world, yet every small gesture is a step in that direction.

How did the foundation come about?

In 2019, Judith took a painting course at the Church in Ouddorp with Mr. Hartkamp, who generously entrusted us with the entire course fee to use for good in South Africa. This kind gesture from Mr. Hartkamp and his students became the catalyst for starting our foundation.

Inspired by the desire to create something beautiful, we went shopping for a Farm School in Port Elizabeth, purchasing essential items like paper, writing materials, markers, books, balls, and other play materials. The teachers were overwhelmed with gratitude, as they had been without books and notebooks for months. Our winter trip was a heartwarming success, and with a sense of fulfillment, we returned home.

That’s how, in 2020, we officially launched our foundation in the Netherlands.

Our goal is not simply to donate money to those in need—this often results in short-term relief without long-term change.

Instead, we focus on helping people pursue their own goals and dreams, covering start-up costs where needed. One of our successful projects has been Xolisilie’s gym – Coastal Gym. Thanks to generous donations, he was able to bring his dream to life.

We helped with the location, bought sports equipment, created registration forms, and guided him through starting his own business. True to our mission of making the world a little bit happier, Xolisilie now provides his fellow villagers with the opportunity to improve their health through sports, offering an alternative to idleness or worse.

Why do we ask for your donation?

After bringing joy to many—including shoppers at the supermarket, the Farm School in Port Elizabeth, Xsolisile in Sea Vista, and a football team of 55 boys—we’ve already embarked on our next project: building a sports field and facilities for and by the residents of the slum. Additionally, we allocate your donations to the people and causes we believe need them most.
